It is because the fat that in coconut oil is primarily lauric acid. Lauric acid is a medium-chain triglyceride.

Lauric acid doesn’t normally get stored in your body. As a medium-chain triglyceride it is used by the liver and used for energy instead of getting stored in your body. Another benefit of consuming coconut oil is that it is good for your heart.

We know it is important to keep our cholesterol and triglyceride levels low. If we don’t keep these in check we increase our risk of heart disease. Researchers and scientists have linked coconut oil to a lower risk of heart disease and have also shown improvements in cholesterol levels.

The benefits of coconut oils expand beyond your heart though.

Coconut oil is also beneficial for our eyes…

Coconut oil contains lutein a naturally occurring carotenoid. Our bodies absorb it as an antioxidant and protect against the damage caused by blue light absorption.

Coconut oil improves the absorption of lutein into our bodies by 150% when compared to the control in research studies.

Researchers tell us that these findings can go a long way to protecting our eyes against the progression of age-related macular degeneration and cataracts.




Which Type Of Coconut Oil Is Best?


The BEST kind of coconut oil to reap all the health benefits is extra virgin or virgin coconut oil. These two forms contain the most antioxidants, polyphenols, and heart health benefits.

These antioxidants and polyphenols help to fight off free radical damage within your body and lower inflammation.

Extra virgin and virgin do have a stronger coconut flavor though.

If you don’t like or want the coconut flavor you can also use refined coconut oil that still provides the medium-chain triglyceride lauric acid and some of the antioxidants such as lutein for your eyes.
